Penner Announces for State House

Orting Mayor Josh Penner says he is running for the 2nd District State House, after the announced retirement of Rep. JT Wilcox.

Orting WA, Orting Mayor Josh Penner today announced he will run for the State House of Representatives for the 2nd District.  Penner said, “Our community and our entire state are facing real challenges that are often made worse by the choices made in Olympia.  I know my experience as a father, small business owner, and mayor will help improve the choices made in the legislature.”

Penner announced his campaign shortly after Rep. Wilcox made his statement that he was retiring.  Wilcox endorsed Penner saying, “Josh Penner is our best choice to represent our area in Olympia.  His record as Orting Mayor and his commitment to the Second District’s way of life prove he’ll stand up for all of us.”

Penner very quickly secured endorsements from other community leaders, including Rep. Andrew Barkis, Mayor DePinto of Yelm, Mayor Ivy of Roy, Mayor Johnson of Puyallup, Mayor Markley of Gig Harbor, Former Mayor JW Foster of Yelm, Pierce County Executive Bruce Dammeier, Pierce County Councilmembers Dave Morell and Paul Herrera, Orting Deputy Mayor Gunther, Orting Councilmember Koenig, as well as other local leaders and PCO’s.  “I’m grateful for the support from so many people in our community,” said Penner.
