Penner Files for 31st District State House

Orting Mayor Josh Penner will run for the State House in the 31st District, a seat being vacated by Rep. Eric Robertson.  Robertson has endorsed Penner.

Orting, WA, – Mayor Josh Penner today filed to run for the State House of Representatives for the 31st District.  Earlier in the day incumbent Rep. Eric Robertson announced he was not seeking reelection, and endorsed Penner.

Penner had previously announced his intent to run for the House in the 2nd District, though in an unexpected chain of events, Orting was moved from the 2nd District to the 31st by a ruling from a federal judge in response to a court case involving a Yakima area district.

Penner said, “I have deep roots in the 31st District, my wife and I both grew up in Bonney Lake, we met in Sumner High School, our families live in the community.”

Penner has already been endorsed by many local leaders including  Bonney Lake Mayor Terry Carter, Sumner Mayor Kathy Hayden, Rep. JT Wilcox, Rep. Andrew Barkis, former Senator and County Council Member Pam Roach, and both current members, House Republican Leader Drew Stokesbary and Rep. Eric Robertson.

Penner said,  “Public safety, good schools, and simply making life more affordable again will be my top three goals as a lawmaker.”
