Taxation Without Accountability: Reigning in Sound Transit

This is government for the government, by the government.
The Expansion of Unchecked Authority
Sound Transit operates as an unelected board hoarding billions in debt. Yet, they collect massive amounts of your property and sales taxes every single year. The 31st District pays more to Sound Transit than they pay to their own city governments, all while receiving a fraction of the services they were promised.
When Olympia tried to pass SB 6309, they sought to let Sound Transit bypass local zoning laws and dodge even more financial accountability. I challenged them directly on the House floor because this legislation represents everything wrong with how our state manages its regional transit authorities.
"This is government for the government, by the government."
The Burden on Taxpayers
The struggle over SB 6309 highlighted the exact dangers of centralized power. During the debates, the tension between regional mandates and local autonomy became undeniable. Proponents of expanded authority ignored the voices of the very people they serve.
They treated our tax dollars as a blank check for their mismanaged mega-projects. The expansion of authority within regional bodies creates a dangerous precedent. When we allow centralized agencies to bypass local input and rewrite zoning laws to suit their own needs, we weaken the very foundation of our communities.
Reclaiming Local Control
We deserve a transportation system that answers to taxpayers, not bureaucrats in Seattle. I have consistently challenged the Sound Transit narrative because we cannot afford to keep funding a system that operates without transparency.
I am fighting to bring accountability back to Olympia. We need an adult in the room to say "no" to unchecked expansion. We must demand that our state government operates with strict accountability and a fundamental respect for the taxpayers who fund it.
Stand with me to demand accountability. We must stop the extremes from funneling our money into ideological vanity projects and return local control to our communities.
